22nd October 2026: A Day of Hope, Courage and Compassion
The afternoon of 22 October was a memorable one for Shreeram Radhakrishnan Memorial Trust. At the beautiful Nerul Gymkhana Restaurant, the Trust provided educational financial assistance of ₹8.7 lakh to 35 students from cancer-affected families, helping them continue their education despite the challenges they face.
Behind every beneficiary lies a story of pain, loss and courage. Some have lost their fathers to cancer, some have parents battling the disease, while a few are themselves undergoing treatment. For these families, ensuring that their children continue their education is an additional struggle amidst an already difficult journey.
During the cheque handover, several beneficiaries shared their deeply moving experiences. One woman spoke of how her husband abandoned her and their child after she was diagnosed with cancer. Another recalled that after losing her husband to cancer, she realised she had never even crossed a road alone. Today, she has found the courage to face life independently.
Another mother recounted losing her husband just four years after their marriage, only to see her child diagnosed with blood cancer a few years later. After six years, the disease has relapsed. Yet another woman, who had lost her husband to cancer, spoke emotionally of how the Trust had not only supported her daughter’s education but had also treated the family with dignity and respect. These were just a few of the many stories that touched everyone present.
Our guest speaker, Mr. Pankaj Tiwari, delivered an inspiring address, urging the beneficiaries to look ahead with courage and hope, reminding them that while the past cannot be changed, the future can still be shaped. His words were received with resounding applause.
Trustees Radhakrishnan, Lalitha and Anil, along with Trust Manager Ajit Khatal, also addressed the gathering, encouraging the students and their families to remain determined and continue moving forward. The afternoon was more than a cheque distribution programme. It was a reminder that even in the face of immense adversity, compassion, encouragement and timely support can help people find the strength to carry on. For the Trust, the true purpose of this initiative is not merely to provide financial assistance, but to give these students hope, dignity and the opportunity to build a better future.
